In preparation for the Children's Aid Foundation of Canada's five14 Talks (an annual event held from 2014-2018 to mark Ontario Children & Youth in Care Day), the Foundation’s Young People Advisory Council [YPAC] met to workshop the meaning of community.
“Strong community is particularly important for youth in care because youth in care need people to bounce ideas off of, they need people to talk to. It really gives them a good support system. Sometimes it can be hard to make that transition, so staying connected and staying plugged in with a social worker or people who have really helped them become who they were over the years and shape their identities really really helps them to overcome transition out of care.” – Troy, YPAC Alumni
