Fostering Community

Sep 29th

September 30th is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This is a day to reflect and learn. We would like to share two videos below that can help you learn about the injustices that Indigenous communities have faced, and are still facing today.

Shannen’s Dream

Shannen's Dream, named in loving memory of Shannen Koostachin, is about making sure that First Nations children and youth have the same education opportunities as others but in ways that respect their language and culture and takes into account that they may not be starting from the same place. Learn more about Shannen and Attawapiskat.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission calls on Canada to provide culturally-based education for First Nations children, and calls on all of us to learn more about Indigenous peoples in Canada as a starting place for the important work of reconciliation.

Thank you First Nations Caring Society for teaching us about Shannen’s Dream and the conditions of schools on reserves across Canada.

Namwayut: we are all one. Truth and Reconciliation in Canada | Canada is …

Chief Robert Joseph shares his experience as a residential school survivor and the importance of truth and reconciliation in Canada.

Thank you Chief Robert Joseph and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission for sharing this story and teaching us about the devastating effects of residential schools.
